Howard is Senior Vice President of Content Management & Archiving Group at EMC. Howard founded Documentum back in 1990 with a vision of uniting the world through content. The company went public in 1996 and was acquired by EMC in 2003. Today Documentum is recognized as the leading enterprise content management platform on the market.
Howard has more than 30 years of experience in the engineering and development of mission-critical software and systems. Prior to founding Documentum, he worked for Ingres Corporation as director of product development. And before that he was at Transaction Technology Inc./Citicorp as department manager for Data Base Processor. Howard is also a veteran of Digital Equipment Corporation. He started his first company, Transtech International, in 1979.
Howard currently serves on the Board of Directors for e2020 Technology Inc. He received his BS in Computer Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his MBA from Pepperdine University. Howard was a finalist for the 1998 Entrepreneur of the Year award sponsored by Ernst & Young LLP.
In addition to Howard’s business and academic accomplishments, he has achieved much pursuing his personal interests. Howard’s sense of adventure has taken him to new heights—and new depths. An accomplished skier, he became a ski instructor in 2002. He later became a certified scuba diver. After earning his pilot’s license, Howard went on to fly MiG jets in 2007 (as a tourist), reaching speeds of 2.6 Mach at an elevation of 75,000 feet. Howard is the first tourist to fly 2 MiGs (MiG 31 & MiG 29) back to back on the same day. Howard is also one of the first Everest Skydivers.
Howard is passionate about education and learning. He has generously donated money to local and overseas schools for many years, helping children of all races become educated and productive citizens of our future.
