Step Up... Be an Angel and donate now to Global Angels Burmese Refugee projects
Once considered one of South East Asia’s richest countries, after four decades of military rule, over 3 million Burmese people are now internally displaced.
The hardships faced by the refugees are tremendous, with whole communities being forced to hide in the jungle without access to basic resources, hospitals, medical care, school buildings and roads. The threat of government soldiers bombing their settlements and placing mines in their rice paddies creates a constant battle for survival.
Recent studies focusing on Karen, Karenni and Mon areas highlighted a health situation closely resembling that of conflict areas in Africa:
- 1 in 5 children die before their 5th birthday.
- 1 in 12 mothers die in childbirth.
- 1/4 of all deaths are attributed to malaria.
Our project partners, located just inside the Burmese border, show a high level of integrity and transparency, with the ability to deliver maximum impact:
Through our partnership with Hope4TheWorld and Partners Relief & Development, we will be sponsoring the training of 26 medics from within the refugee communities to man 32 mobile health clinics. We are fully supporting two mobile clinics which will work to maintain a health system throughout the villages.
Through Partners Relief & Development we are also funding a three year development farm project, focused on providing marginalised communities with the training and resources for sustainable agriculture and fish farms.
