Jyoti Street Project, Nepal

Bringing dynamic transformation to street children.

Increasing inequality, the breakdown of social safety nets and 14 years of conflict has made the situation of children in Nepal more precarious than ever.

Once on the street, children face countless risks to their survival and health development, including abuse, disease and infection, exposure to criminal activities and gang violence.

The JYOTI Street Project provides a wide range of integrated services to help street and working children to survive and improve their lives, including:

Daytime Drop-in Centre providing a safe haven for street children, where they can access informal education, vocational training, healthcare, counseling, and relax and have fun
Night Shelter providing safety for children while they sleep
Children’s Bank where children can keep their money from thieves and save it for the future
Kitchen Club, providing simple nutritious meals bought, cooked and served by street children for street children
Children’s Radio Project and Newspaper, giving street children a voice to raise awareness about issues affecting them

JYOTI Street Project reaches out to children on the street, offering them choices, and supports them to raise their voice and change their situation. This project is developed with the children, implemented by trained peer educators (former street children) and managed by an experienced project manager.
