Angel of the Week – Nick Firth’s Amazing 12 Hour Trek!
"My name is Nick Firth. I trekked for 12 hours in aid of Global Angels and raised $500 dollars between my school, family and neighbours. A 100% charity that supports this generation and the upcoming generations that have/will be effected by global warming. This is my attempt to do what I could to raise awareness and support Global Angels."
As you may know, every week on the Global Angels Facebook and Twitter pages we select an 'Angel of the Week'. This might be an amazing fundraiser, one of our Ambassadors or Corporate Angels or just someone who has stood out to us as being a particularly great Angel.
This week, 13 year old Nick Firth from Australia is this Angel. Inspired by Ambassador and adventurer Bear Grylls after he visited his school last year, Nick, along along with his father, performed a huge 12 hour trek around the boundary of his families rural farm property in central north New South Wales. The countryside is very rugged here and much of the terrain dense bush, with steep crevices, streams and of course wildlife! We are told by Nick's mum Catherine that, despite the day being quite cold, Nick began at 6am sunrise and finished just before 6pm sunset - an amazing 12 hours!
Catherine said, "This was an arduous day that involved navigation, map reading, climbing and crossing streams. Throughout this Nick was driven by his efforts to support Global Angels."
Nick raised an amazing $500 Australian Dollars for Global Angels through his passionate fundraising including a special 'cake n can' stall where cakes were baked and drink cans sold to the school students at his school, St Ignatius' College. Nick received donations from classmates, friends and families which helped him to achieve this brilliant result!
Nick is a perfect example of an 'Angel in Action' and we're so proud to have him as an Angel. He also made a great video documenting his trek, so you can see him in action! Check it out below...

Preferred Hotel Group & Good Night Foundation Step Up!
A new concept from Preferred Hotel Group (PHG) and The Good Night Foundation (GNF) will allow new and existing Angels worldwide to use their holiday time not only as a way to relax and enjoy themselves but at the same time to help others worldwide and, 'give back' while travelling.
The nightly rate when booking PHG's 'City Kids' and 'Family Fun' offers will include a donation of $1 to $3 to Global Angels! With the packages available for the rest of 2011 we're really excited to see this new scheme in place, opening up yet another cool way to make a difference.

Global Angels Team Complete British London 10k Run!
A team of 30 'Angel Runners' completed the British London 10k Run in support of Global Angels. On Sunday 10th July our team ran over 6 miles through the center of London alongside 25,000 other runners, all sporting Global Angels t-shirts as they powered to the end.
An amazing achievement for our whole team: Our fastest runners came in at 47 minutes from the guys (from Currency Solution's Tien Tran) and 49 minutes from the girls (Sophia Anastasiadis). All of the runners finished in less than 1 hr 30 minutes: an amazing feat, especially on such a hot summers day!
As the first Angels In Action running event, we are off to a great start. The atmosphere on the day was amazing with a huge sense of team spirit and support of Global Angels. Our runners have raised over £1400 so far and the sponsorship keeps on coming in. You can check them out and sponsor here.
A special mention also to Global Angels team '3 Peaks The Hard Way' (find out more here) who used the 10k as a warm up for their 3 Peaks Challenge later this year - they completed the run as they will be completing the 3 Peaks - with a crippling 30kg backpack on!
We would also like to say a huge thankyou to K-Swiss who sponsored the team with some of their amazing running shoes - We had brilliant feedback on the trainers from all the runners commenting on how much they loved them and convinced they had 'go faster' stripes on them which helped the team achieve their excellent times!
We are on the lookout for some more sporting events to take part in soon and hope even more Angels will join in next time!
We have some great photos, below, with thanks to Koroush Mazaheri-Asadi for all his efforts in catching the runners on camera!

We are so happy to say that Bear Grylls and his team have completed their expedition of the Northwest Passage!
During their journey they encountered many challenges; saving a man and his dog, and even discovering what could be a huge breakthrough in the mystery surrounding the Franklin doomed Northwest Passage expedition of the 1840's!
Bear and team have raised a huge amount for kids in Africa so far. Thank you so much to everyone who has helped them in their success, through donating online and by entering our competition to meet Bear! It's been amazing to see you all taking part and being Angels.
Step UP! Be an Angel - Support Bear and give kids in Africa clean, safe water to drink, through our Water For Life Campaign.
Strakka Racing Driver Nick Leventis - Record Everest Skydive
The date for our amazing Ambassador Nick Leventis' Everest Skydive is drawing closer and closer! His Strakka Racing team have already had an amazing season with their record achievements at Le Mans and amazing win in the Hungaroring 1000 Kilometres! They are great supportors of Global Angels - their HPD racecar has carried our logo all season, and it is embroidered on the driver's race suits!
Nick will be attempting the highest Everest tandem skydive this coming October, in the name of Global Angels and refugee kids on the Thai-Burma border - he aims to raise £50,000! What a brilliant Ambassador he is.
Nick and his wife Sophie became Angel Ambassadors earlier in the year when they travelled to Mae Sot in northern Thailand and made a short film about the refugee children living on the Thai-Burma there, all in need of our help.
See their moving film...
"Our hearts went out to the refugee children we met there. Tens of thousands of children live in harsh conditions in shacks or squalid boarding houses, with too little food, and rudimentary schools. It is hard to believe that they are safer and better cared for in Thailand than in their own country, but they have fled a brutal government and an endless civil war. Some are with their parents, but many are orphanss. We met one girl whose mother had been killed by a landmind and her father shot by the Burmese army. Some children have run away after being constripted as soldiers, porters or human minesweepers. Burma has more child soldiers than any other country in the world." - Nick Leventis
Bear Grylls and team have now set off on their Northwest Passage expedition this weekend! How exciting!
They have reached Resolute Bay, one of the furthest outposts in the Arctic, and the must-pass-thru location for anyone attempting to reach the North Pole from Canada!
Bear gave this update in his daily blog...
"Summary is, we're having a blast. Trip of a lifetime. Lots of joking and laughing, and then the occasional very serious moment which keeps us on alert all the time. Everyone is in great spirits. [...] Tomorrow we're departing early. Not at sunrise, because that's pretty much right after sunset. We've got our longest day yet in front of us, and all we know for certain is that there is a large ice field just outside of Resolute Bay that I can see from the window of our motel. But we're rested and ready for it."
Bear is raising money to provide safe water for kids and to heighten awareness of the effects of climate change on poor communities struggling for basic needs such as clean water to drink.
Check out some photos below from the first part of Bear & team's Northwest Passage expedition, one again, Good Luck!
In May 2010, Ed Bussey completed his trek to the North Pole in aid of Global Angels. Co-founder of figleaves.com, Ed completed his four week self-supported trek to the North Pole while raising nearly £10,000 for Global Angels! Ed chose to support orphans in Sierra Leone and a project enabling terminally ill children and their families to enjoy a holiday with their loved ones.
Ed took on the tough challenge with the knowledge that less people have managed to complete the trek to the North Pole than have climbed Mt Everest! The recent birth of his new baby girl Thalia and thought of his wife Dilek spurred him on through avoiding attacks from Polar Bears and extinguishing a near fatal tent fire!
Ed said before the trek: "The biggest challenges are going to be the physical endurance, the cold, polar bears - and missing my wife Dilek, and our baby daughter Thalia, who was born in February."
We're really proud of Ed and his achievements for Global Angels. Check out his great video below and visit his Twitter page
Bonita Norris is Youngest British Female to climb Mt Everest
We are very proud to announce that our very own Global Angels Ambassador, Bonita Norris, became the Youngest British Female to conquer Mt Everest on the 17th May 2010. Bonita climbed an amazing 29,029 ft facing freezing temperatures and the risk of frostbite & hypothermia, bravely fighting the elements to raise money for two Global Angels projects: child soldiers in Uganda and the second being for disabled children in the UK.
Bonita took the Global Angels flag with her, placing it on the peak of Everest while championing the causes of child soldiers and disabled children.
World’s Highest Landing- World Record Skydiving Stunt
The Global Angels "Earn Your Wings" 2009 campaign is off to an amazing start!
Two of our Global Angels Ambassadors have made a new World Skydiving record, catapulting our fund raising for street kids and orphans in Asia, towards our $1 million goal.
World Skydiving Champion, Wendy Smith from New Zealand, Tandem Master Tom Noonan from the US, along with Wing Commander Jai Kishan from the Indian Air Force, made a successful landing last week (28th October) at the Kala Patthar plateau, landing at an altitude of 17,192 feet (5,242m), near Mt. Everest Base Camp.
Check out the video below!...
They are the only skydivers to land on this highest drop zone, which means it is potentially a new World Record !
This establishes the new team from Explore Himalaya, led by Wendy Smith, as one of the leading extreme adventure companies in Asia.
This new feat firmly ensconces the Global Angels Angel Skydive Team in the adventure history books and is in preparation for next year's adventures. In 2010 our team will be attempting even more skydiving records during May and October seasons and we are looking to encourage more adventurers to "Earn Their Wings" and join the Angel Skydive Team.
Last year, we kicked off our "Earn Your Wings" fundraising campaign in September, when Wendy Smith, Tom Noonan and Global Angels Founder, Molly Bedingfield, all took part in an Everest Skydive. It was the first ever skydiving adventure in the Himalayas and to date the campaign has raised nearly $300,000 for street kids and orphans in Asia.
Global Angels’ very own founder, Molly Bedingfield, takes being an Angel very seriously. She is so serious in fact, that she is willing to take that message to the heights of Mt. Everest for a World Record Skydive adventure, raising desperately needed funds for some of Nepal’s most vulnerable children.
Her cause has taken flight and our friends at the The LA Times highlighted her jump in a featured editorial on September 17th, 2008.
On the 10th September 2007, Global Angels Ambassadors Melanie Slade and Madeleine Bowden embarked on an amazing adventure to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for street children in Africa, autistic children and children with cancer in the UK.
The girls Stepped Up to this incredible challenge to help raise money for projects that make a real difference to the lives of children.
Molly Bedingfield, World Highest Charity SkyDive, Mt Everest!
Global Angels Founder Molly Bedingfield was one of the team of international skydivers who participated in the 2008 Everest Skydive to become the first ever skydivers in the Himalayas.
They jumped from at plane at nearly 3,000 meters with Mt Everest as the backdrop... and Molly raised nearly $300,000 for street kids and orphans in Asia.

The article below is from Hello magazine's 'Inside Story' focusing on Molly.
In 2007, on Monday May 14th, Bear Grylls teamed up with Giles Cardoza and, with the backing of the GKN Mission Everest team, flew over Everest by paramotor! This achievment led to Bear Grylls claiming the title of first man to fly over Mount Everest by powered paraglider.
Bear and fellow pilot Giles took off from Everest base camp, situated at 14,500 feet in Nepal. Both had specially developed paramotors. At 28,000 feet, a fault in Giles' machine ended his mission just 1,000 feet below the summit, forcing him to glide back to safety. Luckily, Bear was able to continue to ascend until, at around 9.30 am, he reached the height of 29,500 feet to claim this extraordinary title!
Bear raised $1million for Global Angels projects in Uganda, Sierra Leone, Kenya and Mozambique; 100% of which went towards providing water, food, education, medicine and housing for kids and their communities.
Kevin Smith, Chief Executive of GKN which sponsored the mission said...
"This is a stunning achievement and we are all proud to have played a part in Bear's adventure... Let us all draw inspiration from his courage and go on to complete our own Mission Everest Challenge"
