Providing Clean Water for Children in Africa

1.1 billion people on the planet don't have access to safe, clean drinking water. That's one in six of us.

This year over 108,000 people will receive fresh safe water through the grants we have given in Kenya in severe drought areas.

In 2008 we built and refurbished water wells to provide safe drinking water to 15,000 children and their communities in Guludo, Mozambique. In 2010 we would like to do the same again for another 15,000 people in the nearby villages.

Safe drinking water dramatically changes the quality of life for these communities.

Just $20 gives at least one person in Africa safe drinking water for 20 years through our partner projects.

THE NEMA PROJECT - PROVIDING SAFE WATER
FOR CHILDREN IN MOZAMBIQUE

One of our most exciting projects is the Nema Project in Guludo, Mozambique.

Until now, the mortality rate for children under five years in the Guludo area has been as high as 35% due to water borne diseases and unsafe drinking water.

In 2008 we built and refurbished water wells to provide safe drinking water to 15,000 children and their communities in Guludo, Mozambique. Previously the community shared water holes with animals. Check out the video yourself and see what how your donations are dramatically empowering whole communities.

All it takes is $20 to provide water for 6 people in this project for 20 years.

100% of your donation will go directly to Nema safe water projects on the ground in Mozambique.

Be an Angel.. and give children clean safe water to drink.

New Water Project in the Masai Mara, Kenya

We have just about completed a new water project in Kenya providing water for around 6,000 people in tiny villages in a remote part of the Kajiado district of the Masai Mara. Long term droughts over the last 10 years have caused severe problems for the families in this region.

We are supporting a wonderful project run by the charity Child's Life in the Esiloya Masai community. Collaborating with local families and government, we have partnered with them to help provide school buildings, education for school age children and water for the whole community.

Providing nutritious school meals for the children each school day guarantees most children will attend school. The boys who would normally be tending the animals and the girls who would normally be married off by 12 years are much more likely able to continue their education.

The first ever secondary school in the area, providing for 350 children between 14-18 years of age has been completed with Global Angels funding. The new water well providing for 6,000 in the wider catchment area is almost completed.

All it takes is $20 to provide water for one person for 20 years.

100% of your donation will go directly to safe water projects on the ground in Masai Mara, Kenya.

Be an Angel.. and give children clean safe water to drink.

  WATER FILTER PROJECT, HAGAR, CAMBODIA
Improving quality of life

Currently, only 31% of the rural population of Cambodia has access to safe water.Villagers depend largely on unprotected wells, ponds or rivers as their main sources of drinking water, while tap water in the cities is undrinkable and polluted. All water needs to be boiled for a long time, using scarce firewood.

The country’s high infant mortality rate of 97 out of every 1,000 live births can be partially attributed to bad water and poor sanitation.
As a result of drinking contaminated water, many adults and children are stricken with water-born diseases such as cholera, typhoid and diarrhea. Children miss school or cannot concentrate, while adults lose out on vital income.

In 2000, Hagar introduced the BioSand Water Filter in many villages and communities in the provinces of Kratie and Kompong Thom. The initiative has become a rallying point for educational campaigns on health and hygiene. The Water Filter Project is now into its fifth year of installing water filters, training families on its effective use and monitoring its appropriate use and maintenance.

All it takes is:

$50 to provide 4-5 families safe water for 10-15 years
