Aspire Recruitment raise funds and visit Little Angels in South Africa

Throughout 2007 Aspire Recruitment raised funds for the Little Angels project in South Africa. Little Angels help rescue abandoned and ill babies, and in December Aspire sent three lucky employees to go see the great work that Little Angels is doing for themselves.

The girls had a fantastic time, and here’s what they had to say:

‘What Pat, Phillip and JP are doing there is amazing; they spend everyday helping families with small children who don’t have jobs therefore no money and maybe even no home and also rescuing babies that have been left on the side of the road to die either because they are unwanted or just that their mothers cannot afford to provide for them. It has opened my eyes and spurred me on to think of other ways that we can raise money for this very worthwhile charity.’

‘The whole team does amazing work and helps so many children and families. I helped to prepare parties, spend time with the children and delivered worth while hampers to families less fortunate. It opened my eyes to so many things and I have never experienced anything that made me look at life so differently. ‘

‘We visited over the Christmas period where they held daily parties for un-fortunate children, bringing smile and laughter to so many beautiful children. On another occasion we visited an orphanage where the children there were cared for 24hours a day; here was a real eye opener as to where money is truly needed, for everyday items such as washing machines, general first aid and food. The children here are very poorly and were so happy to see us, a friendly face, a smile, an cuddle.’

feedback on the success of their new school feeding program

In 2007 Global Angels launched a school feeding program in Guludo, Mozambique with Amy Carter from NEMA. We were able to feed 257 kids in in the program in 2007.

In 2008 this figure has gone up to 301 as the children go back to school in January. Hard Rock Cafe have partnered with Global Angels to cover most of the sponsorship for these children this year.

We have some fantastic feedback from the school on the success of the program, including 25 children who will go on to secondary school this year. This has never happened before.......

Please look at the PDF below for quotes from the children on how much they enjoy being at school and having enough food in their bellies! There some really good photos of these beautiful children as well.

Hazel Thompson back from Congo & Darfur

Global Angels Ambassador and photojournalist, Hazel Thompson, has recently returned from Congo and Dafur on assignment with The New York Times. Her photos of women and girls in their teens, survivors of indiscriminate brutal rapes from soldiers, are featured front page, alongside Jeffrey Gettleman's compassionate report on their plight.

Hazel is often on the front lines working through her photography to champion the causes of woman and children in some of the most dangerous places on earth. She captures the beauty and humanity of real people and brings their true stories to us, the public. We find our hearts are strengthened and energised to keep helping marginalised people fight their battle to be respected as human beings and to find freedom and safety for themselves and their children.

Report on Provision of Water Filters for Families in Rural Cambodia

In partnership with Drop4 Drop and Hagar, Global Angels launched our provision of water filters and wells for families in Cambodia.

At present, only 31 percent of the rural population of Cambodia has access to safe water.Villagers depend largely on unprotected wells, ponds or rivers as their main sources of drinking water, while tap water in the cities is undrinkable and polluted. All water needs to be boiled for a long time, using scarce firewood.

The country’s high infant mortality rate of 97 out of every 1,000 live births can be partly attributed to bad water and poor sanitation.
