Anneka Svenska is the step-daughter of the original founder of Greenpeace and has worked with animals, charities and the environment all of her life on and off the television.
Anneka is a leading wolf enthusiast, dog expert, scuba diver and animal handler in many well known shows, including ‘It’s the Dog or Me’, ‘Steve Irwin a Tribute’ and ‘The Wag & Bone Show’.
Anneka grew up surrounded by animals and was working with the RSPCA by the age of 5. By the age of 15 Anneka had already rescued numerous animals and her house became a haven for all manner of adopted and saved creatures. Anneka initially started to train as a vet, but pulled the ropes on this career due to her deep love for animals causing her not to be able to euthanize animals, so instead she followed her equally passionate dream of training to work in television. Anneka achieved a 2:1 degree before embarking on her TV career.
Anneka decided to train as an American and UK lifeguard and PADI diver in order to home her expertise for travel and adventure. She works regularly with wolves at many of the UK wolf sanctuaries. She regularly advises owners on dog handling and marine care.
Anneka is a staunch vegetarian and grows many of her food in her eco friendly tropical garden in London. Here Anneka has created a green haven for tropical plants, birds and wildlife as well as an area for composting and growing organic vegetables. Anneka also owns an eco-marine tank, built by hand using only the most natural materials comprising of a self-cleaning natural weed and deep sand bed system. Anneka’s tank is home to many abandoned marine fish, corals and invertebrates which she has chosen to instead rescue over the years, rather than import from abroad in order to furnish it without destroying the natural habitat the animals are imported from.
Anneka writes for many of the top animals and dog magazines on a regular basis and also advises on eco friendly alternatives to modern day living and environmentally conscious food providers.
When Anneka is not working on TV, she spends most of her spare time campaigning for animals and children’s charities. Anneka is a firm believer in being a voice for those who do not have a voice themselves. She lives in London and is a proud parent of two beautiful children and a household full of animals. Anneka has felt the loss of a baby child in her family before and understands the heartbreak and fragility of life in a being so young before they have had the chance to blossom and reach adulthood.
