Our Response
We have launched an emergency appeal, to provide direct aid, famine relief and sustainable solutions through our 100% partner projects in Kenya to the drought-stricken areas of East Africa. We will be working to provide water, food and medical care to refugees from Somalia who have fled to Kenya and to local communities devastated by drought.
Our 100% partners are working with us to ensure that 100% of all donations will go directly to provide on the ground resources..
The Situation
A harsh drought that hit Africa in March 2011 has resulted in over 12 million left starving across Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia and all of East Africa, leaving it's citizens struggling from severe lack of food, water and emergency health care. Thousands have crossed the Kenya/Somalia border into Dadaab, Kenya in the hope of seeking refuge and are left displaced. Children are severely malnutritioned, left vulnerable cholera and measles, now fatal to their weakened immune systems and parts of the country are now facing famine as the crisis continues.
The worst in over 60 years, the drought has destroyed livestock and crops with devastating consequences for the people and creating a situation that is still rapidly deteriorating.
